Who says this is an ”and \or” situation. Combat more often then not is violent. Combat taught me to respect myself and others. I see the two as analogous. I never cease to be amazed watching two fighters embrace after having tried to damage the other for sport. But then I’ve seen men kicked to the edge of death for giggles.
