TRAINER
Tonatiuh Salcedo Baird B.ExSc
Tonatiuh is a first Dan Black Belt in Goju-ryu Karate. He was awarded state champion for kumite (sparring) in 2017 and again in 2018. He became national champion in two separate weight classes that year, representing Australia in Croatia, Chile, New Zealand, Turkey and New Caledonia. He also received the Victorian School Sports Award in recognition of these achievements.
Inspired by his experiences as a martial artist and basketball player, Tonatiuh undertook a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science with a major in strength and conditioning. After training and competing at a high level, teaching others was a natural progression.
Through participation in sports, Tonatiuh has developed a high degree of focus, discipline and persistence. Teaching Karate to students of all ages has also developed his ability to form strong connections with his charges. He believes that achieving a healthy lifestyle is about enjoying the process by creating positive habits, rather than simply focusing on the outcome.
